A huge congratulations to our Active LD Advisors – Daniel, Dave, Evie, James, Matthew and Ryan – who received a Mayor of Winchester Community Award in March for their outstanding contribution to helping local people with learning disabilities become more active.
Four of our advisors were able to attend the awards evening and were among a fantastic group of local community champions. It was an uplifting, inspiring and celebratory event.
Through their lived experience of having a learning disability and their passion for physical activity, our advisors help shape everything we do at Active LD. Their insight ensures that our programmes are welcoming, inclusive and meaningful for the people they are designed to support. We are incredibly proud of them and deeply grateful for the contribution they make.
The citation read out on the back of each certificate recognised this impact:
“Active LD has made a significant contribution by supporting adults with learning disabilities to access regular physical activity. Through participant-led events such as Personal Bests and Aqua Bests, which have been attended by the Mayor, they have created welcoming pathways into sport that build confidence and connection. Their work is shaped by lived experience, strengthened by dedicated volunteers and community partners, and driven by a strong commitment to inclusion, empowerment and long-term wellbeing.”
