Active LD Volunteers

Make a real difference by volunteering with us!

We’re looking for volunteers to support our weekly low-level circuits session on Saturdays (3–4pm, Winchester Sport & Leisure Park, usually on a 1:4 rota).

This is a fantastic opportunity for students interested in medicine, health, or social care.If you’re interested, please contact Betty at betty@activeld.org or 07884 063201.

By helping adults with learning disabilities stay active, build confidence, and feel part of the community, you’ll be supporting real, lasting change. Whether through sports, walking groups, or Personal Best events, your time truly matters.

Join our friendly team - our volunteers are at the heart of Active LD, and you are amazing!

Volunteering at the Personal Bests Events

Our fantastic Personal Bests volunteers make the event so successful! We just couldn’t run the day without volunteers. We’re delighted that so many come back each year to support the event and we love receiving feedback from volunteers on how we can make the event even better.

It’s a busy day, filled with energy and enthusiasm. Led by our qualified and experienced coaches, volunteers help participants enjoy each activity and guide them round the site. Our volunteers also provide the participants with important social connections and a rich level of community engagement.

We are grateful to our corporate partners for their ongoing support of the event in providing volunteers. The Personal Bests offers an ideal opportunity for employer supported volunteering (ESV). Offering a valuable day away from the office where volunteers also strengthen their own team building skills, communication, empathy, leadership and problem-solving skills.

Dates for 2026 events will be released at the beginning of the year.

What our Volunteers say

What our Volunteers say

Thank you for having me along yesterday - I was utterly exhausted last night, but I had the best day... I was really nervous about the day, having not had any experience with working with people with learning disabilities before, but I found the autism awareness session and volunteer briefing really helped with that... The participants were absolutely amazing, and their enthusiasm and happiness was infectious... Although I was there to support the participants, it was a day of development and achievement for me too.

I think this year has been the best well managed event so far. Everything  was so under control and the teams were so lovely.

I really enjoyed the day. Pre-event communications, emails, info pack, video briefing etc. went really well. Activity leaders were excellent.

Sue, Winchester Aqua Bests 2025

What our Volunteers say

As a fourth-year trainee PE teacher, I volunteered at the Chichester Personal Bests event to deepen my understanding of inclusive practice and support young people with learning disabilities. The event showed the power of sport to connect, empower and include. Inclusion isn’t just about access—it’s about belonging. I learned how structure, flexibility and small adjustments help every learner thrive. My confidence grew as I adapted communication, instruction and activity design. Volunteering was incredibly fulfilling and developed my skills.

Charlotte, Chichester Personal Bests 2025

What our Volunteers say

Our service users, staff and parents thought the Aqua Bests was even better than the Personal Bests. They thoroughly enjoyed it and cannot wait for the next one next year.

Hayley, Manager of Day Service group, 2025

What our Volunteers say

My highlight was seeing everyone receive their certificates and medals—the pride on their faces was unforgettable. The experience reinforced my self-belief, and I’d tell others to do it, 100%!

Hope, Chichester Personal Bests 2025

Check out the Personal Bests!
